Belize is blessed with the 2nd largest Barrier Reef in the world and hundreds of islands that sit glistening in the sun, just behind it! When you think of Belize, think of the Caribbean Sea and think ‘blue’ . . . every imaginable shade of it!
Ambergris Caye, the most northern, almost touches Mexico. San Pedro, the main town is a kaleidoscope of color and activity and arguably the most popular tourist destination in Belize! The barrier reef sits literally ½ to ¾ mile offshore and from any point on the beach, you can see the Caribbean Sea breaking over it! It glistens, beckoning for snorkelers and divers to come in!
San Pedro is full of activity with lovely restaurants and fun bars all around. Main Street is lined with gift shops and street vendors making this a popular evening tourist activity. Beautiful art, local carvings, jewelry, and of course every tourists’ favorite, t-shirts can all be had and at reasonable prices.
The beach however, is lined with hotels, a few restaurants and beach and over-the-water bars! Fun places to watch the sun rise and set! It will be your favorite.
Getting around is easy. Bikes, golf carts and for the northern-most hotels, water taxis. Come visit San Pedro and see why this is a favorite travel destination.
Caye Caulker sits a mere 20 minute boat ride south of San Pedro and has become a favorite for the budget conscience and off the beaten path type of tourists. This is a true Belizean experience…much smaller and more relaxed. Like San Pedro to the north, the reef is just offshore, begging divers and snorkelers to enter. The town is relaxed, still the barefoot destination, with street vendors, small shops, restaurants and bars. A day in Caye Caulker is not complete with a visit to ‘The Cut’ where visitors can lay in the sun, swim in the crystal clear waters or sit back with a cold Belikin beer!
